Fishermen, Leonard accuse Bonner of holding up committee
Councilwoman laughs off claim, says fishing advisory group will meet
  55 comments below

Peggy Spellman Hoey photo
Local fishermen rallied outside of the Rocky Point Fishing Stop on Broadway recently calling for a Fishing Advisory Board, which some believe will not only help jump-start the industry but Brookhaven's economy. From left, John Leonard, Stan Hentschel, owner of the Rocky Point Fishing Stop, Tom Farrell, vice president of the New York Coalition for Recreational Fishing, and Brookhaven Supervisor Mark Lesko.
Anglers are standing shoulder to shoulder, though not over at the fishing pier at Cedar Beach in Mount Sinai.

Local fishermen are calling for a fishing advisory committee, a working group to study the economic impact of the fishing industry and access issues, which was promised as part of an agreement by Brookhaven officials to reopen the town's facilities at Shoreham Beach to fishermen. Brookhaven officials had banned fishing at Shoreham Beach for about a year after receiving complaints from residents in the surrounding area about noise, littering and vagrancy, drawing the ire of area fishermen.

Officials on both sides of the debate arrived at an agreement in June that allowed anglers back to the beach, though with proper identification only; anglers must now obtain a fishing access sticker by providing proof of residency and valid identification. And the beach was added to the list of night fishing spots; however, permits are only available to residents.

Some anglers are pointing their finger at 2nd District Councilwoman Jane Bonner, a Conservative who caucuses with Republicans, for holding up the formation of the advisory committee. Ms. Bonner, who would serve as the committee's liaison to the Town Board, has not supplied all the names of the proposed members to the office of Supervisor Mark Lesko, a Democrat whose office helped iron out the agreement's details.

"She's not working with us, and we will support people who are for fishing access," said Stan Hentschel, owner of the Rocky Point Fishing Stop, during an Aug. 25 rally outside his shop. Mr. Lesko joined the rally, along with his aide, John Leonard, who is looking to unseat Ms. Bonner in November's election. The rally was also attended by representatives of the New York Coalition for Recreational Fishing and the Montauk Surfcasters Association, two of the largest fishing advocacy groups that lobby access issues associated with the recreational fishing industry.

Ms. Bonner, who also worked with the supervisor's office on the Shoreham Beach agreement, disagreed and pointed out that she has not received all of the proposed names for the committee from the other council members.

'I'm certainly not holding it up.' Councilwoman Jane Bonner
"I'll inquire again in a couple of days," Ms. Bonner said. "I'm certainly not holding it up."

Mr. Hentschel noted he had to lay off staff members at his shop last year and needed to take $65,000 out of his savings due to the combined effects of the economy and the closure of Shoreham Beach. Since the beach has been reopened to anglers, Mr. Hentschel has been able to rehire his staff, and he credited Mr. Lesko's administration for the way they handled the issue.

Patchogue Mayor Paul Pontieri, who now serves as the part-time liaison to the town's Economic Development Division, will be exploring ways the fishing industry can be used to promote economic development and revitalization in downtown areas with empty storefronts such as Rocky Point, according to Mr. Lesko.

"To turn your back on fishing is to turn your back on the history of Long Island," Mr. Lesko said.

Ms. Bonner said she is supportive of any ongoing effort to revitalize any downtown.

"A thriving business community is important," she said.

Tom Farrell, vice president of the New York Coalition for Recreational Fishing, who also helped iron out the agreement with Brookhaven officials, said that prior to Mr. Lesko's arrival, the fishermen felt stone-walled.

"[Brookhaven] wouldn't do anything for us -- it fell on deaf ears," Mr. Farrell said. "It was a battle to the last day."

Mr. Leonard said he supports a tie between the fishing industry and the downtown areas as part of Brookhaven's economic development plan.

"Fishing is one of Long Island's most honored pastimes," Mr. Leonard said.

Mr. Leonard noted how there already is a natural tie between the two -- with noted fishing areas like Port Jefferson, Patchogue and Sayville having thriving downtowns -- but that the town might need to look at different ways the fishing industry could be boosted and then used as part of a revitalization effort.

"As a candidate for Town Council, you will have a friend," Mr. Leonard said to the fishermen on hand. "You guys are a part of the economy. We honor and respect that."

The fishermen and Mr. Leonard might give Ms. Bonner a run for her money come Election Day, according to Mr. Lesko.

"The battle's not over until Nov. 3," he said.

Ms. Bonner wasn't bothered by the comments in the least.

"It sounds to me like my opponents -- the supervisor and his running mate are running their campaign by press conference, when I am actually doing my job," Ms. Bonner said.

Shoreham Beach : 11/19/2009
Can anyone prove that Jane Bonner did not close Shoreham Beach?

Jane Bonner closed the beach : 11/19/2009
There has been alot of talk from Jane Bonners supporters that she did not close Shoreham Beach. I can only assume that these same people do not have any clue in what they are talking about. They must not have attended any of the meetings where Jane admitted to being responsible for the closure of the beach to fishing and when she clearly stated that the beach would never be open again to fishing. They are simply spewing propoganda when they claim Jane is supportive of recreational fisherman. They claim the Town Board voted collectively on the closure however they have never once provided any proof. The reason they have not provided any proof is straight forward. The Town Boards voting history is general public knowledge and the closure was never voted on. After Jane told everyone at the Shoreham Civic meeting that she will have the beach shut down she went straight down to the Parks Department and did it all on her own. After all of this it is not a surprise that she is trying to hamper the progress of the fishing advisory board. It seems corruption is status quo in Crookhaven as usual. Jane has never represented district 2 in its entirety. Once again she continues to represent her chosen few. Those who voted for Jane must enjoy deceit and corruption.

Jane still sticking the screws to all : 11/17/2009
The fishing advisory board is still being held up. Why is jane Bonner so against fishing?

You must be Jane : 10/27/2009
"Shoreham Beach is not the only place to fish on the North Shore. If the beach had to be closed down temporarily, why could the fishermen not fish some place else until the problem was resolved? A short drive to either the west or the east would resolve the problem. The fact that so many people in the fishing community supported Jane Bonner in the primary yesterday, is proof that her political adversaries cannot fool the fishermen. Jane loves you all. Especially fishing community." The Beach was illegaly shut down to fishing. It was even stated that if anyone was caught walking across the PUBLIC beach that charges would be pressed against them for trespassing which happens to be a misdemeanor. Are you the person that lives on the bluff that claims to be a fisherman yet packs up in his car to go fish elsewhere? Or are you Jane? The fisherman never wanted to fish in the bathing area and everyone knows it. The beach was shut down due to the issues with the illegal aliens and everyone knows it. Laws should have been enforced and Jane should have never been able to violate the law by closing off the beach to fishing. She violated the law and discriminated against several thousands residents within the Town of Brookhaven. She knew what she was doing when she attempted to permanently close Shoreham Beach to recreational fishing. By eliminating the access point to the beach there she eliminated access to the beaches for several miles! She knew exactly what she was doing. The only thing she did not know is that the recreational fishing community would not sit back and take her blatant disregard for their rights. There are several other bogus restrictions to fishing on the North Shore that will eventually be addressed and changed for the better regardless who wins this election. It is beyond the time for people to stand up for their rights. Jane may realize that after she loses this time around.

Bye Bye Jane : 10/27/2009
Jane must not be too happy with the poll's lately. She definitely has somebody running against her that is more than worthy of defeating her.

DITTO : 10/26/2009
"My vote's with Leonard I wholeheartedly recommend John Leonard for Brookhaven Town Council. He will certainly be a great advocate for our community. One of the most compelling issues is his interest in creating a homestead tax rebate for seniors. John's mother-in-law lives in Leisure Glen, so he clearly understands the challenges seniors with fixed income face on Long Island. He also supports the creation of a research center, much like Cold Spring Harbor, in the area now occupied by the former Shoreham power plant. A "green" research facility would also bring in much-needed tax revenue. In my opinion, John Leonard is the intelligent voter's choice."

John Leonard and the Fisherman : 10/26/2009
It was nice to see the fisherman cleaning up Shoreham Beach yesterday. John Leonard and his children were there helping out as well. He took the time out of his extremely busy schedule to support not only the fisherman, but our community as well. It was not a surprise that Jane Bonner was not there. Afterall she was the one behind the closure of the beach to begin with.

Patronage Jane : 10/26/2009
The last blogger must have been paid by Jane to spew further lie's on here. We all know the truth. By the way, did you happen to see Jane at the meet the candidates meeting at Leisure Glen? Rumor has it that her entire speach was a bit rediculous. All she did was talk about her family and not about any real issues. She looked like she was already beaten and defeated. Her Closing was pathetic stating that she replaced McCarrick because he was at whits end and could no longer deal with politic's and that she is close to that point as well. It is time for Jane to either step down or just simply voted out of office. We need somebody with the intelligence and back bone it takes to run the office.

JUST SO YOU KNOW, "DATA & FIELD SERVICES" IS A "FOR PROFIT", ARM OF THE WORKING FAMILIES PARTY. I CAN'T SAY, WHAT WE HAD WAS A CONVERSATION, IN THE TRADITIONAL SENSE, OF THOSE WORDS . IT WAS MORE AN INTERROGATION BY ME. I FOUND OUT THE FOLLOWING : 1. HE WAS CANVASSING FOR JOHN LEONARD, IN HIS BID FOR TOWN COUNCIL, 2ND DISTRICT, TOWN OF BROOKHAVEN. 2. HE WAS EMPLOYED BY "DATA FINANCIAL SERVICES", OR THE WORK FAMILIES PARTY. 3. HE WAS NOT A RESIDENT, OF THE TOWN OF BROOKHAVEN. WHEN YOU VOTE ON NOVEMBER 8, REALIZE, THAT THERE ARE PEOPLE OUTSIDE OF THE TOWN, WHO WANT YOUR VOTE. THEY USE DISGUISES, TO GET THAT VOTE. THEY WANT IT, FOR THE POWER IT BRINGS THEM...NOT YOU, THE RESIDENTS, OF THE TOWN OF BROOKHAVEN. LIKE THAT CANVASSER, THEY ARE NOT GOING TO TELL YOU THE TRUTH, OF WHO THEY REPRESENT. THEY DON'T WANT YOU TO KNOW, WHO THEY REALLY ARE, AND WHO THEY ARE REALLY GETTING THEIR DIRTY MONEY FROM. JOHN LEONARD, AND OTHER WORKING FAMILIES PARTY, ENDORSED- CANDIDATES, DON'T WANT YOU TO KNOW THEY ARE TAKING MONEY FROM THESE ORGANIZED VOTE STEALERS. THESE CANDIDATES KNOW, THAT WHEN YOU MAKE THE CONNECTION, THAT DOES EXIST, BETWEEN "WORKING FAMILIES PARTY" AND "ACORN",YOU WILL THINK HARDER, ABOUT GIVING THESE CANDIDATES YOUR VOTE. THE WORKING FAMILIES PARTY, DON'T CARE ABOUT YOU, OR ANYTHING IN THE TOWN OF BROOKHAVEN. THEY WANT IT FOR THE POWER ,IT WILL BRING THEM, OVER YOU. WHEN YOU ARE IN THE VOTING BOOTH, LOOK OVER YOUR CHOICES, FOR YOUR VOTE. CRITICALLY READ, ABOUT THEM AND THEIR ALLIANCES, THAT THEY MADE, IN THEIR QUEST FOR PUBLIC OFFICE....BEFORE THE ELECTION. DON'T GIVE YOUR VOTE AWAY. IT'S IMPORTANT...LIKE YOUR LIBERTY ! STAND UP, AGAINST CORRUPTION !

Say NO to Jane : 10/24/2009
Come Election Day cast your Vote for John Leonard. Jane Bonner stands for the old way of doing things for Crookhaven. Don't let her waste hard earned tax dollars on needless and excessive studies anymore. Don't let her discriminate against anyone anymore. She not only closed off Shoreham Beach to the fisherman, she ended up closing the PUBLIC beach to everyone prematurely last year. She attempted to keep Shoreham Beach as a private beach permanently from the majority of tax paying citizens in the Town of Brookhaven. How many live in District 2 that had their rights violated by Jane? How many had their rights violated in the entire Town of Brookhaven? The number is in the 1000's! Hold Jane accountable for her actions and vote her out of office. Our Wallet's can't afford to have her in them anymore.

Shoreham Beach : 10/23/2009
First I like to say Shoreham Beach is the Town Of Brookhaven residents beach not for just the locals. Many others including myself pay taxes for that beach so why should we fish some where else!! 2nd Shoreham Beach was not temporarly closed ,I was personally told by Jane Bonner's office that beach was going to be closed for good . Jane is not a friend of the fisherman/fisherwomen. As for the fisherman voting for her I don't think so as that beach was closed for fishng. What fisherman/fisherwomen would vote for her? Our rights were taken away from us when Jane closed that beach but were given back due to the help with Mark Lesko, John Leonard, NYCRF, Fisherman/Fisherwomen and all others.

Clean up : 10/22/2009
On the 25th of October the New York Coalition for Recreational Fishing will be hosting our 1st annual beach clean up over at Shoreham Beach. The clean up shall run from 9am - 11am unless it is completed faster than that. Trash bags will be supplied for all in attendance by the NYCRF. Please meet in the in the Shoreham Beach parking lot approximately 15 minutes prior to 9am in order to commence the event on time. Thank you in advance for your support. All are welcome and we look forward to seeing all of you there.

Vote for John Leonard : 10/17/2009
This council district election is very important for the people of Rocky Point and the surrounding hamlets. Jane Boner is so controlled she had to let Richard Amper write a letter for her and to inject his input on yet another study. This proves what a lot of people thought,Jane is not a free thinker. She was always told how to run her council district which she was elected to by lawyers and other political friends. I think the people need a change from this way of running this district. She excepted campaign contributions from Fairfield. Where are the ethics here, excepting campaign contributions from a builder knowing that the community is dead set against this project.. This has lot of people thinking. It was the people who stopped Fairfield. Not Jane Bonner. On October 10, 2009 there was a story in the North Shore Sun in which she is quoted saying, "That's because there hasn't been a good proposal," Ms. Bonner said in a telephone interview. What took her so long to come out against FairField project? In my opinion it looks like she was scared to say anything that would offend the builder, lawyers and local officials who in the first place wanted to get this project approved no matter how many people were against the project. When it comes to problems in the area like storm water run-off, every time someone calls her, she says were getting a study done. People have had it with Jane Bonner, its time for her to go. John Leonard has helped with some of our problems which is a start, a far better outcome than a study with the Storm water problem, Without the study John Leonard helped in saving tax payers hundreds of thousands of dollars from her waste full thinking, another study. So register to vote and vote her out. This council district needs help and that's John Leonard, he help us fishermen also.. Don't forget to vote and if you did not vote in years, register to vote we must vote Jane Bonner out this time for good...

Anti - Hispanic? : 10/16/2009
According to a gentleman by the name of Scott Santamaria, Jane Bonner may be a racist. Scott is an attorney who lobbies the Town for Walmart Corp. According to Scott, Miss Bonner closed down Shoreham Beach to fisherman because of the problem she was having with the illegal aliens down there. In particular the people of hispanic descent. She realized that some of the Hispanic population liked to fish. Whether they were fishing to put food on their table or not. She then comitted to the permanent closure of Shoreham Beach to fishing. This certainly seems to be a blatant act of Racial Discrimination. She not only violated the rights of the recreational fisherman, she had racial motivation behind it as well.

Jane is clown : 10/16/2009
The meet the candidates meeting at the Sound Beach Fire Department was very impressive. John Leonard made Jane Bonner look like a clown. Her stance for re-election was picking up the dead Deer and the ferrile cats while John Leonard spoke of the real issues. We need the incompetance voted out of office. This is beyond fishing. Jane is part of the problem known as CROOKHAVEN!

Patronage Jane : 10/16/2009
First Jane Bonner voted to fire hard working town employee's. Then she put her relatives and patronage politicians on the town payroll. Then she raised taxes to pay for it! She didn't only stick the screws to the fisherman. She stuck the screws to all of us!

LOCAL ANGLERS, Have you seen this story ? Feds to 60 Million American Anglers: We don't need you IRVINE, Calif. USA – October 5, 2009 – A recently published administration document outlines a structure that could result in closures of sport fishing in salt and freshwater areas across America. The White House created an Interagency Oceans Policy Task Force in June and gave them only 90 days to develop a comprehensive federal policy for all U.S. coastal, ocean and Great Lakes waters. Under the guise of ‘protecting’ these areas, the current second phase of the Task Force direction is to develop zoning which may permanently close vast areas of fishing waters nationwide. This is to be completed by December 9, 2009. Dave Pfeiffer, President of Shimano American Corporation explained, “In spite of extensive submissions from the recreational fishing community to the Task Force in person and in writing, they failed to include any mention of the over one million jobs or the 6o million anglers which may be affected by the new policies coast to coast. Input from the environmental groups who want to put us off the water was adopted into the report verbatim – the key points we submitted as an industry were ignored.” http://fish.shimano.com/publish/content/global_fish/en/us/index/articles/feds_to_60_million.html IF THE OBAMA ADMINISTRATION IS ABANDONING YOU, WHAT DO YOU THING THE LESKO-LEONARD ADMINISTRATION, is going to do for you, locally ???? Don't you think the LESKO-LEONARD position IS FAKE ???? YOU ARE JUST BEING USED, BY THEM TO GET ELECTED ! MAKE LESKO & LEONARD GIVE YOU AN ANSWER !

: 10/11/2009
People can't "handle the Truth" about local candidates' ACORN $$$$$$$$$$$ connection. JOHN LEONARD, MARK LESKO & JOHN ROUSE ARE ENDORSED BY THE WORKING FAMILIES PARTY... http://www.workingfamiliesparty.org/elections/endorsements/suffolk-county-endorsements/ Go to this link, if you want to see THE TRUTH, about John J. Leonard's getting money, from THE WORKING FAMILIES PARTY... http://www.elections.state.ny.us:8080/reports/rwservlet?cmdkey=efs_sch_report+p_filer_id=A08215+p_e_year=2009+p_freport_id=K+p_transaction_code=C A VOTE FOR LEONARD, LESKO & ROUSE IS A VOTE FOR ACORN !

: 10/11/2009
John Leonard, along with MARK LESKO, and JOHN ROUSE, are the recipients of WORKING FAMILIES PARTY money and support. In case you haven't been keeping up on this union funded community organizing group, IT HAS BEEN UNDER FIRE FOR, POSSIBLE, ILLEGAL CAMPAIGN CONTRIBUTIONS, here in various New York City and New York State elections and election endorsements."google it" ! THESE INVESTIGATIONS ARE "ONGOING" ALL AROUND THE COUNTRY, FOR THE WORKING FAMILIES PARTY ! THE WORKING FAMILIES PARTY IS CONNECTED TO, the now infamous, ACORN, both in leadership, with Bertha Lewis as the appointed "head", and with $$$$$$$$$$$$$ ! A VOTE FOR LEONARD IS A VOTE FOR ACORN ! DO YOU WANT ACORN ON OUR TOWN OF BROOKHAVEN BOARD ? I don't see John Leonard staying in office long, "IF YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN" if his $$$$$ ties to the WORKING FAMILIES PARTY, should be examined ! Eventually, it's going to catch up to all these WORKING FAMILIES PARTY endorsies. SO, JOHN LEONARD IS WORRIED ABOUT FISH ? WE SHOULD BE WORRIED, ABOUT VOTING IN A LOCAL POLITICIAN, ALIGNED WITH, AND WORKING FOR ACORN !

No way to Jane : 9/30/2009
Over the past two years, we have been gathering information for a vast number of categories, so that we may continue to inform our and surrounding communities with fair and accurate information on important issues at different times. As you well know, Fairfield Properties announced that they would cancel their plans for their proposed Rocky Point PDD. At that time they announced that in two weeks they would submit plans for 47 single family homes (as-of-right) to be built on the property they own behind the Rocky Point McDonalds restaurant on Rte. 25A. At that time there was speculation that they would not make any move until after the elections. That announcement from Fairfield was 11 weeks ago and the elections are now upon us. As you may have already read, several of our elected officials are still spending hundreds of thousands of our tax dollars on what they call Corridor studies, Hamlet studies, Feasibility studies, etc. We believe that these Studies all point in the same direction; to facilitate the efforts of developers in proliferating their projects throughout or communities. One of our elected officials, Jane Bonner is running for reelection as our Councilwoman. Her district includes Rocky Point and several surrounding communities. Prior to running for our representative on the Brookhaven Town Council, Jane Bonner held a position on the Rocky Point School Board. According to the School Board Minutes, while she was on the school board, Jane negotiated with Fairfield Properties for a swimming pool for Rocky Point. This proposed swimming pool was part of a “community benefit” that we would receive in exchange for a zoning change so that Fairfield could build it’s dense project in our town. In other words, “What will it take to ‘buy’ the school board’s support”. Had it not been for vehement opposition to the Fairfield project by Rocky Point Residents Action Group and along with comunity oposition to Fairfield, I believe she would still be negotiating for the pool or for some other community benefit. Jane Bonner is presently endorsing another corridor study for the area along Route 25A through her district. This corridor study will cost hundreds of thousands of TAX DOLLARS. Our feeling on this is: If a corridor study is in favor of a sewer district, anywhere in the study, it will pave a path for Fairfield Properties to resubmit their proposal. Don’t forget the headlines 11 weeks ago. “we will submit a plan for 47 homes within two (2) weeks. Those plans have yet to materialize and have not been submitted to the Town of Brookhaven. And Jane Bonner has been silent on this from the beginning. Until the recent opposition to Fairfield, Jane Bonner was in our estimation “pro” Fairfield. While she openly opposed the Tall Grass PDD in Shoreham and the development of 60+ acres in Miller Place (single family houses on one acre lots would destroy the rural downtown feeling of Miller Place) she only stated that “I will do what the people want” when it came to the Rocky Point Fairfield PDD. On another front, while it is perfectly legal, moral, and ethical to accept campaign contributions from whomever you wish; the consequences attached to those contributions should be realized. When it comes to voting on a proposed project involving a campaign contributor, one should remove themselves from voting on that project. In no way shape or form do we allege and wrong-doings of any kind, but we do feel you should know who some of her contributors are. 1. John J. LaValle “LaValle said he plans to abstain from discussing and deciding the (Fairfield) matter because of his political and prior business relationships with Broxmeyer (the owner of Fairfield)."I never interact with their [Fairfield] applications," said LaValle, who at one point served as Broxmeyer's attorney. "I completely take myself away from the situation. I think that's extremely appropriate because I wouldn't want any wrong perception out there." (Newsday June 11, 2001) KUDOS to you Mr. LaValle. 2. “Friends Of John J. Lavalle”- contributions of $1,500.00 3. Jane Bonner received $500.00 of campaign contributions from Fairfield. With the election upon us, think carefully about all of our candidates….we would not presume to tell you how to vote…..these are important times in Rocky Point….think carefully and choose people that represent us. Rocky Point Residents Action Group

Garbage : 9/17/2009
It has become quite obvious that Jane and some of her supporters have resorted to spreading nothing but lies. They have been spreading enough lies to fill a garbage dump. The majority of it is right here on the blog. All of her Constituents know the truth!

It was only Primary : 9/17/2009
We only had a primary folks. It really means nothing. The Election will show what the majority wants. To the one who brought up Veterans and Fisherman voting for Jane. Your sadly mistaken. The majority of Veterans and Fisherman are extremely unhappy with Jane Bonner. By the way a Veteran just wrote this.

JANE, FOR THE PEOPLE : 9/17/2009
Rocky Point Fish and Stop used Shoreham beach as a scapegoat for the bad economy. Fisherman and access groups were mislead. In 2006 and 2007 under Supervisor Foley the north shore beaches were open to everyone without regulation , fee or residency at the communities expense. The Rocky Point Fish and Stop did real good during these reckless and irresponsible times. Its over, our north shore is being taken back for its brookhaven residents. It is now a model for brookhaven and other towns. I am also proud of veterans who voted for Jane and protect our communities at home not just abroad.

FISHERMEN LOVE JANE : 9/16/2009
The last two posted comments are absurd statements from emotional Mark Lesko supporters who cannot face defeat. "No fisherman will ever vote for Jane." Really? How did she get 77%of the vote yesterday? Are there no Republican fishermen who voted in the primary? Are all fishermen Democrats? Please get real!!!! You are angry that Jane won the primary. You are liberal Lesko Leonard Losers and you have every right to vent on this website. You do not have the right, however, to suggest that any candidate hates a certain group of people. JANE DOES NOT HATE FISHERMEN! JANE DID NOT CLOSE SHOREHAM BEACH! The Town Board did, including Councilwoman Kathy Walsh, who was appointed by liberal Lesko as his Deputy Supervisor with a $50,000.00 per year raise. FISHERMEN ARE VOTING FOR JANE! It is true that not all will vote for Jane, but many already have and will continue to do so. JANE HAS NOT COST ROCKY POINT ANY MONEY! Shoreham Beach is not the only beach in town. Nobody is too lazy to travel to a nearby beach if they want to fish. It is the national economy that is hurting everybody, including downtown Rocky Point. Mark Lesko and his puppet John Leonard offer to govern Brookhaven in the grand traditions of Eliot Spitzer and Governor David Patterson, If that is what you want, vote for it! If you want good government, however, as do most fishermen, vote, as they have and will continue to do so, for Jane Bonner for Councilwoman in Council District 2.

Jane : 9/16/2009
Jane Bonner cost the immediate local economy thousands of dollars with the stunt she pulled last year. The Town of Riverhead reaped the harvest from it.

Really? : 9/16/2009
"SHOREHAM BEACH : 9/16/2009 Shoreham Beach is not the only place to fish on the North Shore. Especially fishing community." Are you really that ignorant? The problem at the beach was never the fisherman and everyone here knows it. Would you allow your rights to be violated? Is it fair that all of the local businesses lost an enormous amount of money due to what she had caused? Also WE ALL KNOW THE CLOSURE WAS NOT MEANT TO BE TEMPORARY. Mark Lesko may have lifted the unlawful ban however if it had to end up in court it would have been lifted as well. The only difference would have been that it would have costed EVERYONE alot of money. JANE IS ANTI FISHERMAN AND EVERYONE KNOWS IT. JANE ONLY LOOKS OUT FOR A SELECT FEW AND EVERYONE KNOWS IT. JANE HAS BEEN CAUGHT IN LIES SEVERAL TIMES NOW AND EVERYONE KNOWS IT. "Mark Lesko has smeared Jane Bonner. In just a few short months, he has torn the Democratic Party into pieces. " Mark lesko has not smeared Jane Bonners name. She has done that all on her own by being caught in lies and unlawfully closing down the beach. Don't forget she closed it off to everyone prematurely last year. Her own neighbors confronted her on the closure. She wasn't too happy when that happened in public. But she made her bed and had to lay in it. We also know Mark Lesko has been doing everything possible to work in Bi-Partisan manner. He has held true to everything he said he was going to do during his campaign for the Special Election. NO FISHERMAN WILL EVER VOTE FOR JANE. Notice the sign in the tackle shops window. If it wasn't her fault the sign would not be there. Fishing aside Supervisor Lesko has been doing a spectacular job and will most certainly win the Election this November.

SHOREHAM BEACH : 9/16/2009
Shoreham Beach is not the only place to fish on the North Shore. Especially fishing community.

THE UNiQUE SITUATION : 9/16/2009
"There happen to be thousands of people in the Town of Brookhaven who love to fish and use our beaches. They spoke at the Special Election last year and Mark Lesko won by a landslide." WRONG! Mark Lesko never thanked the fishermen for electing him, because they did not. Tim Mazzei never blamed the fishermen for defeating him, because they did not. Yes, Mark won the Special Election, because the Democrats rallied around him and united like they rarely have been before. Then Mark Lesko demanded that Pamela Betheil be arrested and placed in hand cuffs without a grand jury investigating whether or not any crimes had been committed. All Pam's friends and supporters think he would stick a knife into the back of his best friend if it would further his polictical ambition. Women are furious with his conduct. Those who love fishing should be wary. You may betrayed next. He then made a deal with Bill Walsh. He made Bill's wife, Councilwoman Kathy Walsh, his Deputy. Kathy had voted to close Shoreham Beach. Bill was supposed to lead a charge to defeat Jane Bonner and Keith Romaine in the primaries. He failed! Mark Lesko has smeared Jane Bonner. In just a few short months, he has torn the Democratic Party into pieces. The only way he can possibly win is if the Repuclican candidate gives up and does not campaign. The botom line is that, regardless of what happens in the Supervisor's Race, the fishermen and fishewomen will vote for Jane Bonner in Council Distict 2. Her primary victory with 77% of the vote was a repudiation of Mark Lesko, Bill Walsh, Marsha Laufer and John Leonard.

unique situation? : 9/16/2009
Can anyone explain why Shoreham Beach was a unique situation? Is it because some people did not want illegal aliens using their beach but feel its ok everywhere else? The only thing I saw unique about Shoreham Beach was that a certain Councilwoman thought she could turn a public beach into a private one. There happen to be thousands of people in the Town of Brookhaven who love to fish and use our beaches. They spoke at the Special Election last year and Mark Lesko won by a land slide.

: 9/16/2009
"There are many miles of North Shore beaches in Brookhaven running from Stony Brook Harbor ro Wading River. " With very little access. By closing Shoreham Beach Jane figured she could eliminate access for miles on the North Shore. She was obviously proven wrong. All she did with her unlawful behavior was infuriate several people. SHE also cost local businesses 10's of thousands of dollars. When it comes time for the election people will not forget about this. She said "the hardest thing I ever had to do was close Shoreham Beach to fishing and boating". She is in for a surprise. The hardest thing she will be doing is trying to get re-elected.

Ooh that smell : 9/16/2009
"You were never denied access to any other north shore beach. The problem in Shoreham was unique. What has Mark Lesko done to gain you access to all of the beaches controlled by the incorporated villages? All he would have to do is to contact Old Field officials, Poquott officials and Port Jefferson officials and demand that they open all of their beaches to all fishermen who do not live in the villages. " There isn't a person that lives in Rocky point that does not know Jane Bonner was responsible for the closure of Shoreham beach. Whether they fish or not they all know the truth. Yesterday was only the Primary and does not reflect what will happen in the actual election. Jane didn't exactly have the most formidable opponent against her yesterday so this outcome is not much of a surprise. When she has to run against somebody with a proven track record, such as John Leonard has the results will be much different. As far as fishing on the Incorporated Villages goes several people legally fish from them on a regular basis with no issues that you speak of. Whether it is a private beach or not, the LAW clearly states that we have the right to be there as long as you are below the mean high water mark. Most people do not have a problem with fisherman. It seems that you and Jane do.

POLITICS AND FISH - BOTH SMELL : 9/16/2009
There are many miles of North Shore beaches in Brookhaven running from Stony Brook Harbor ro Wading River. One or two isolated fishermen claim that Councilowmen Jane Bonner was1 one of 7 Town Board members who had voted to temporarily close Shoreham Beach. They claim that Mark Lesko saved them from the worst injustice since slavery by helping to get the beach re-opened! What is it with you fishermen? You were never denied access to any other north shore beach. He could lead a protest by inviting fishermen from all over the country to join him in fishing on the Old Field beaches. Marsha Laufer could show her support by getting some fishing poles, some bait and tackle and joining Mark and the fishermen. That would be showing real support for the fishermen. It is also something that Mark Lesko will never do, because it might cost him his job. His job comes before the fishermen. If fishing will revitalize Rocky Point, it will certainly do no harm in East Setauket. Let us all fish on the Old Field beaches and tell the the local police that Mark Lesko and Marsha Laufer have given us their permission to fish there in order to save us from Jane Bonner who cannot be defeated at the polls.

Patronage Jane : 9/16/2009
It is pretty sad that some people praise someone that shoud be brought up on charges rather than re-elected. Keep in mind this was only the primary. This is far from what the election will show.

CONGRATULATIONS JANE! : 9/15/2009
CONGRATULATIONS JANE BONNER! The Suffolk County Board of Elections has announced that Jane Bonner has won the Repulican Primary by a vote of 1439 (77.16%) to 426 (22.84%). Congratulations also to the fishermen and fisherwomen who all voted for her against the wishes of a few left wing leaders of their organiztion. Everybody supported Jane tonight. Let all Republicans, Conservatives, Democrats, Independence Party Members and Working Family Party Members unite behind Jane and give her a resounding victory on November 3. WE LOVE YOU JANE!

Patronage Jane Bonner : 9/15/2009
While fraternizing on the job, patronage Jane treated the fisherman like criminals! She threatened to have anyone in possession of fishing gear on the beach to be summonsed for trespassing which is a misdemeanor. This ofcourse would have never held up in court but the fact is that tshe threatened and treated the fisherman like criminals.

Jane Bonner : 9/14/2009
This is a direct quote from the owner of the Rocky Point Fishing Stop. The quote is from one of many blogs. "John Skinner was nice enough to make time from his schedule to attend the meeting with me. He lives in Riverhead which has a workable solution to parking and access issues. As John was bringing up viable input to some of the problems, Jane Bonner chimes in and insults him. You can only guess how embarrassing that was to me. I have lost all respect for her and will do all I can next election year to have her removed. I feel she showed ignorance and insensitivity to the fishermen." It sadly seems some things never change. Miss Bonner has not been cooperative with the fisherman at all even after the new policy for fishing on Shoreham Beach have been put into place. She dragged her feet beyond belief with the fishing advisory board all year long. This affects well beyond Shoreham Beach, this affects the entire Town of Brookhaven. Actions certainly do speak louder than words. She can claim all she wants to be a friend of the fisherman trying to cover up her dirty work. However her actions have proven otherwise all along. No wonder why there is a "No Bonner" sign in certain storefronts. For some reason she is on a personal vendetta against recreational fisherman. In these troubling times why would she be so against fisherman? They contribute an enormous amount of money into our local economy. They not only spend money in the tackle shop they spend money everywhere in Town. From the gas stations, the convenience stores, the restaurants you name it they spend there hard earned money everywhere. They come from all walks of life such as the ranks of Law Enforcement, fireman, attorneys, financial advisors, union workers and even single mothers. They also for the most part happen to be extremely environmentally concious. They love to keep their resources clean. They are extremely protective of their resources, access and the surrounding area's. So you see it is a great idea to keep them coming and have them around. Especially living in a remote area is a good thing to have extra eyes and ears keeping an eye on things. They are the first ones to get on the horn to contact law Enforcement if they see anything out of line going on. It has been proven over and over again Jane is adamanlty against the fisherman and will go to any length to keep them away from what she thinks is her private beach. Its one lie after another with her. First it was about the fisherman and the laws on the books, then the patronage positions came out in public. Then she pulled a Slick Willy on us claiming there was nothing going on with her new fiancee. One lie after another! We do not have to tolerate this anymore. lets vote the best man or woman in to replace Jane.

District 2 : 9/14/2009
I agree 110% that jane Bonner does not handle confrontaion well at all. It actually goes well beyond that. All too often anytime anyone starts telling their story at one of the board meetings and it is against what jane would like to see she starts to crumble. You can check for yourselves online if you have not seen it for yourself yet. Boy did she handle it poorly when she was informed that people did not like how the School Board was handling things. She got confrontational herself and very whiney. There are other meetings posted online where she conducts herself in the same manner. Also what about the meeting where she became all emotional and had to be asked to control herself and step outside? We need someone who can act on their feet and keep their composure while working for our community. Could it be Novarro or could it be Leonard?

bonner : 9/14/2009
Jane does not do well with confrontational situations... She wanted Mazzie to win the supervisors position. Well, he didn't. In a previous blog it states that she is engaged to a co-worker which she got a job for, ( and the rest of his family too....) which she vehemently denied, and said, "we are just casually dating....lie after lie after lie...most politicians do lie, to get elected and a place in office. She's is one of them. It also sounds like someone has as sore spot that Kathy Walsh got that $50,000 dollar raise...mmmmmmm Jane, is that you by chance.....we'll never know. But the truths will prove true come November...and the constituents will speak for themselves..as they do have a voice in the community,

A real Circus : 9/14/2009
This blog is turning out to be a real Circus. Not all fisherman belong to an organization and several of them attended Town meetings. It didn't take people long to realize they were being lied to by Jane. The only thing she didn't lie about was when she admitted to being the one that had to close Shoreham beach.

COUNCILWOMAN JANE BONNER : 9/14/2009
The fishermen will be voting for Jane Bonner despite the above photograph which depicts Tom Farrell endorsing Lesko and Leonard. If that picture is not a political endorsement from a tax exempt ordganization for Lesko and Leonard, and an attempt to smear Councilwoman Jane Bonner, then who are you going to believe? Jane, or your lying eyes! Just like the famed "Reagan Democrats" ignored their party's leaders and voted for President Ronald Reagan, the fishermen will ignore Tom Farrell and vote for Jane Bonner!

: 9/14/2009
Leonard is the recipient of funding from the WORKING FAMILIES PARTY, and may soon be joining the extended Town family, of soon-to-be-going to Jail, because of it. IF you want this carpetbagging, community organizing "family", having a say in local politics, vote for Leonard.

jane : 9/13/2009
It truly is amazing how some people try to twist words around. Especially when they are trying to cover something up. Also none of the fishing organizations have endorsed any candidate or political party. However people that enjoy fishing realize who has supported them and who is on their side. They can support anyone they like and can express who they feel is the best candidate. All of the fisherman know the truth. There certainly were enough of them attending all of the meetings regarding the closure and reopening of Shoreham Beach.

JANE LOVES FISHERMEN : 9/13/2009
Now that we established that Jane Bonner, as a councilwoman, does not have the power to close a beach such as Shoreham Beach, the fishing lobby elite tell us that Jane Bonner "misled" the Town Board into passing a resolution temporarily closing Shoreham Beach. If this is true, either the rest of the Town Board should resign for not having the sense to know what they are voting on, or, in the alternative, Jane is such a brilliant public relations person that she could persuade Osama Bin Ladin to surrender if she could just get to talk to him. The fishermen have endorsed Lesko and Leonard. Their organization could lose its tax exempt status if the IRS investigates what they are doing. The plain and simple truth is that the fishermen who know Jane and are familiar with her record, know she is their friend and that they can count on her complete support. Their lobbying organization consists of nothing but Lesko-Leonard messenger boys.

bonner : 9/11/2009
Several fisherman have explainded that Councilwoman Bonner misled the rest of the Town Board and had the beach illegally closed off to fisherman. Don't worry all of the fisherman realize she is against us. She had how long to come up with a proposal and solution to reopen Shoreham beach? And she came up with what at the last minute because she didn't do anything all year long? A proposal that wasn't even good enough to wipe your nose with. It was Supervisor lesko that had to put in the time and correct Janes wrong doing. She did nothing with the advisory board until being pressured by the fisherman either. If it wasn't for the election coming up she would not have done anything at all. Her actions have been appalling when it comes to the rights of fisherman within the Town of Brookhaven. There are thousands of fisherman here on Long Island and seevral of us happen to live right in District 2. Other than the fishing issue Supervisor Lesko won the special election by a land slide. He is expected to do the same thing again come this November. He has done a great job within a short amount of time while in office. He has done everything he promised he would do while he was campaigninig. He has been working in a bi-partisan nature. Unlike Jane Bonner. Even when Mark tries to get more done for the Veterans she votes against him. She is the last thing we need in Brookhaven.

JANE AND THE BEACH : 9/11/2009
It is incredible to me how a lie can become a myth if you repeat it long enough. In "Sounds of Silence" Simon & Garfunkle sang about ". . . people hearing without listening. They must have had in mind the few disgruntled and mis-informed individuals who blog on this website that Jane Bonner closed Shoreham Beach. Jane is a councilwoman. She does not have the power to close beaches. The Shoreham Beach was temporarily closed by a unanimous vote of the Town Board. The fishing lobby claims to love Mark Lesko, but they cannot explain why Jane should be singled out as opposed to Councilwoman Kathy Walsh, who voted to close Shoreham Beach, and then was appointed Mark Lesko's Deputy Supervisor and given a $50,000.00 raise. Jane is a friend of Fishermen. Mark Lesko and John Leonard can never be counted on. They both stuck a knife into the back of out Town Clerk, Pamela J. Betheil, and twisted it like there was no tomorrow. You cannot trust them. You can always trust Jane. She deserves the support of everybody.

councilwoman laughs off claim : 9/9/2009
"It sounds to me like my opponents -- the supervisor and his running mate are running their campaign by press conference, when I am actually doing my job," Ms. Bonner said. If Miss Bonner had been doing her job there would not have been a need for a press conference. Mr Lesko and Mr. Leonard listened to their constituants and did the right thing. We will see who will be laughing come election day.

Bonner against Fisherman : 9/6/2009
Patronage Jane isn't only against the Fisherman. She closed off Shoreham Beach pre-maturely to EVERYONE last year. One of her own neighbors called her out on it at the meeting which was held at the VFW.

Jane Bonner : 9/6/2009
"Ms. Bonner said she is supportive of any ongoing effort to revitalize any downtown. "A thriving business community is important," she said." What a joke! She didn't care when The Rocky Point Fishing Stop was losing there shirt because of the ILLEGAL closure of Shoreham Beach to the fisherman. The woman is an incompetent cry baby that we need booted out of office. All you have to do is go to any one of the Town meetings to see her in action. Anytime things don't go her way her feathers get all ruffled and she begins to whine like a child. I bet she remembers when her Public Safety Official removed her from the meeting last year when she lost all composure while the fisherman from Riverhead was speaking. The fisherman was completely respectful and calm in demeanor. If she really cared about the community and wanted to earn her money instead of doing nothing she would fix what is wrong in the Town instead of causing trouble for good people.

Councilwoman laughs off claim, says fishing advisory group will meet : 9/6/2009
Jane Bonner laughs off claim and says Advisory Board will meet? She has had how long to submit the names on behalf of the Town for the Board. Supervisor lesko gave her the recreational fishermans names he wanted on the Board months ago. At that point in time she wanted to be be in charge of establishing the Board. Why would she want to be the leader when she is anti-fisherman? That is the reason. She wants to do everything possible to do whatever she can against the fisherman. She also laughed off the fisherman at the1st BBCA meeting at the Rocky Point VFW when told that other Towns have tried to violate the rights of the fisherman and they have lost. She was told that the fisherman will not tolerate her actions and will fight till the end to ensure their rights are protected and enforced. She even laughed and snickered while Mark Lesko was speaking at the "meet the candidates" meeting at the Rocky Point VFW. I bet it wasn't so funny to her when Mark Lesko won the election by a land slide!

Bonner against fisherman : 9/5/2009
Jane Bonner is the one who was behind banning fishing to begin with. She thought she would get away with it, little did she know the fisherman and others would not let her trample on our rights for the benefit of select residents. Fisherman fought for over a year to get access back, Jane Bonner has been against this every step of the way and is still trying to obstruct the fisherman. Give it up already Jane, you have lost this battle. You can be guaranteed if there is any backslide in the fishermans rights or no progress is made , the fisherman are watching and will continue to fight for their rights. Concentrate on the real problems of your district, you have 2 months left to do it.
