ALICE D. KEENEY
Alice Droskoski Keeney, a lifelong resident of Southold, died at San Simeon by the Sound nursing home on Wednesday, March 18, 2009, three days after celebrating her 95th birthday.

She was born in Southold on March 15, 1914, to Michael and Josephine (née Ovisanik) Surozenski.

For countless years, she grew and sold flowers from her home on Main Road in Southold and will forever be remembered as "the Southold Flower Lady."

Predeceased by her husbands, John Droskoski and James Keeney, she leaves three children: Alice (Edward) Kramer of Southold, John Droskoski of Peconic and Dianne Droskoski of Wisconsin; eight grandchildren: Susan Vogel, Sharon Kramer, Kris Brown, Edward Kramer, John Droskoski, Chad Droskoski, Alan Baltazar and Ryan Baltazar; 11 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

The family received friends on Friday, March 20, at DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home, where prayer services were offered by Father Marian Bicz. The Liturgy of Christian Burial was celebrated on Saturday, March 21, at Our Lady of Ostrabrama R.C. Church in Cutchogue by Father Bicz. Interment followed at Sacred Heart R.C. Cemetery.

Those wishing to remember Alice in a special way can make a memorial donation to the Southold Fire Department Rescue Squad.

Well-written obituary! : 12/1/2011
Thanks to the composers of Alice Keeney's obituary for all the good info, not only about her good long life, but about her ancestry and descendants. I'm related to the Ovsianiks (way back to Vincent, who was my grandfather Adam's cousin), and am hoping to find the connection that will someday let me say exactly how we are related. Perhaps some relative of Alice will be able to provide the details that will do this...

Grandma : 3/27/2009
They did not print my comments. Perhaps because it was in Polish and they thought it was bunk. In any case,I will try again this time with the english version included. Lepiej byc zdrowym i bogatym, niz chorym i biednym." --- It's better to be healthy and rich, than ill and poor. Spoczywaj w pokoju --- Rest in Peace. Niech ta gwiazda Milosci co zawsze swici na ciebie, nigdy nie zagasnie That star of Love, which always shine on the sky for You, never fade(darken).

Great Grandma Keeney : 3/27/2009
I liked going to her house because I always would get money from her and pick flowers.

Gramdma : 3/26/2009
This is a great photo, the way she would want to be remembered.

We will all miss her!!!! : 3/26/2009
It is going to be so weird going to Southold to visit my relitives now and not seeing grandma's smiling face and sharing a drink with her. We will miss her forever.

Alice Keeney : 3/26/2009
She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
