The stormy weather most likely played a role in the crash, which happened about 1:20 p.m. on Sound Avenue, the authorities said.
“From what I understand one car might have hydroplaned,” said fire Chief George Woodson.
The driver of the first car, whom officials have not yet identified, was trapped inside the wreckage and was “unresponsive” at the scene, according to the fire department's Web site. The driver of the second car, who also was not identified, was taken by ambulance to Peconic Bay Medical Center for treatment of undisclosed injuries.
