Man killed in Baiting Hollow crash
Storm played a role in accident   9 comments below

A man was killed in a two-car accident in Baiting Hollow on Saturday, Riverhead Fire Department officials said.

The stormy weather most likely played a role in the crash, which happened about 1:20 p.m. on Sound Avenue, the authorities said.

“From what I understand one car might have hydroplaned,” said fire Chief George Woodson.

The driver of the first car, whom officials have not yet identified, was trapped inside the wreckage and was “unresponsive” at the scene,  according to the fire department's Web site. The driver of the second car, who also was not identified, was taken by ambulance to Peconic Bay Medical Center for treatment of undisclosed injuries.

cops : 3/17/2010
The police are to busy bothering the kids of this town cause there is nothing for them to do

Hydroplaning : 3/16/2010
Hydroplaning almost never occurs below 55 miles per hour, and is very rare at speeds under 60. It's very likely that someone involved in this accident was speeding. If you know Sound Avenue, you know that someone going 45 is pretty unusual. If the town doesn't want blood on its hands, it better start cracking down.

dude thats hallarious

donuts : 3/16/2010
If you put a donut shop on sound ave, it would solve the problem of police presence.

correctio : 3/16/2010
That should have said 'cops', not 'copy'

And the Riverhead Police are,,,, : 3/16/2010
The Riverhead Town copy are nowhere to be seen on Sound Avenue. It's like the wild west on that road. Try going anything like the speed limit and see how quickly traffic piles up behind you and start making unsafe passes (over double yellow lines and around curves!). I've come face to face with drivers heading straight for me in my lane. Why are we paying these guys $100k+ while accident after accident happens on Sound Avenue with ZERO police presence?
